What Tunnel YT Does
Tunnel YT is a Chrome extension that hides distracting elements on YouTube — including the homepage feed, video recommendations, comments, and the navigation sidebar — so you can focus on the content you actually came to watch.
The extension can be toggled on or off manually, or set to activate and deactivate automatically on a daily schedule of your choosing.
Data Collection
Tunnel YT collects no personal data whatsoever. Specifically:
- We do not collect your name, email address, or any identifying information
- We do not track which YouTube videos you watch
- We do not log your search queries
- We do not monitor your browsing history
- We do not use analytics or crash reporting services
Local Storage
Tunnel YT saves your preferences — whether the extension is enabled, and your schedule settings — using chrome.storage.local. This means your settings are stored only on your device and are never synced to Google's servers or transmitted anywhere.
This data consists only of:
- Whether Tunnel Mode is currently enabled (true/false)
- Whether the schedule feature is enabled (true/false)
- Your chosen schedule on/off times (e.g. "06:00" and "16:00")
You can clear this data at any time by removing the extension from Chrome.
Permissions
Tunnel YT requests the following Chrome permissions:
- storage — to save your on/off state and schedule times locally on your device
- alarms — to trigger the schedule feature at your chosen times, even when the popup is closed
- Host access to youtube.com — to inject the CSS and JavaScript that hides distracting elements on YouTube pages
- scripting — to re-apply Tunnel YT to YouTube tabs that were already open when the extension started or updated, so toggling takes effect everywhere without a reload
No other permissions are requested or used.
Third-Party Sharing
Tunnel YT does not share any data with third parties. There are no third-party SDKs, advertising networks, or data brokers involved in this extension.
Children's Privacy
Tunnel YT does not collect any data from anyone, including children. The extension is a simple productivity tool with no user accounts, registration, or data processing of any kind.
Changes to This Policy
If this privacy policy changes in the future, the updated version will be published at this URL and reflected in the extension's Chrome Web Store listing. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised accordingly.
