What Focus does
Focus is a Chrome extension that hides the distracting parts of Instagram, YouTube and Facebook, while leaving the things you actually use them for. Each site has its own on/off switch:
- Instagram — hides the feed, stories, reels and explore, and opens to your messages; messages, profile and posting keep working
- YouTube — hides the homepage feed, recommendations sidebar, comments and shorts, leaving just the video
- Facebook — lands on your own profile instead of the feed, and keeps Messenger, Marketplace, profiles and your chats (chat bubbles are never touched)
An optional daily schedule can switch focus on and off automatically at times you choose.
Data collection
Focus collects no personal data whatsoever. Specifically:
- It does not collect your name, email address, or any identifying information
- It does not read your messages, posts, or the videos you watch
- It does not track who you follow, message, or view
- It does not monitor your browsing history
- It does not use analytics or crash reporting
Local storage
Focus saves only your settings, using chrome.storage.local. That data stays on your device and is never synced to any server or transmitted anywhere. It consists only of:
- Which of the three sites are switched on
- Whether the daily schedule is enabled, and your chosen on/off times
You can clear it at any time by removing the extension from Chrome.
Permissions
Focus requests the following Chrome permissions:
- storage — to save your settings locally on your device
- alarms — to run the optional daily schedule at your chosen times, even when the popup is closed
- scripting — to apply a switch change to tabs you already have open, without a reload
- Host access to instagram.com, youtube.com and facebook.com — to hide distracting elements on those pages and redirect their feeds; Focus runs on no other sites
No other permissions are requested or used.
Third-party sharing
Focus shares no data with anyone. There are no third-party SDKs, advertising networks, or data brokers involved in this extension.
Children's privacy
Focus collects no data from anyone, including children. It is a simple productivity tool with no accounts, registration, or data processing of any kind.
