What Instagram Focus does
Instagram Focus is a Chrome extension that hides the parts of Instagram built to keep you scrolling — the home feed, stories, reels and explore — while leaving messages, your profile and posting fully working. When you open the home feed it sends you to your direct message inbox instead.
Focus mode can be switched on or off at any time from the toolbar.
Data collection
Instagram Focus collects no personal data whatsoever. Specifically:
- It does not collect your name, email address, or any identifying information
- It does not read your messages or posts
- It does not track who you follow or what you view
- It does not monitor your browsing history
- It does not use analytics or crash reporting
Local storage
Instagram Focus saves a single preference — whether Focus mode is on — using chrome.storage.local. That setting is stored only on your device and is never synced to any server or transmitted anywhere.
This data consists only of:
- Whether Focus mode is currently enabled (true/false)
You can clear it at any time by removing the extension from Chrome.
Permissions
Instagram Focus requests the following Chrome permissions:
- storage — to remember whether Focus mode is on or off, locally on your device
- Host access to instagram.com — to inject the CSS and JavaScript that hide the feed, stories, reels and explore, and to redirect the home feed to your message inbox
No other permissions are requested or used. The extension runs only on instagram.com and touches no other website.
Third-party sharing
Instagram Focus shares no data with anyone. There are no third-party SDKs, advertising networks, or data brokers involved in this extension.
Children's privacy
Instagram Focus collects no data from anyone, including children. It is a simple productivity tool with no accounts, registration, or data processing of any kind.
Changes to this policy
If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be published at this URL and reflected in the extension's Chrome Web Store listing. The "last updated" date above will be revised accordingly.
